Spanish

Most HACER reports are printed in both Spanish and English making it possible for students to practice reading in Spanish. Additionally, these reports introduce students in the metropolitan area to neighborhoods where they may be able to improve their Spanish and learn about Minnesota's Latino community. We recommend beginning with our bilingual community specific reports. Go to publications and search for "ethnography" to find community specific reports.

Social Studies

HACER's series of reports on Latinos in various communities throughout the State introduces readers to the reasons Latinos live and work in the area, their contributions, and community issues. Whether you are teaching your students about South Minneapolis, the West Side of Saint Paul or another neighborhood, students can use HACER publications to broaden their understanding of the people and the place. Go to publications and search for "ethnography" to find community specific reports.

Human Geography

The qualitative and quantitative data throughout HACER reports can illustrate for students the rapid growth of the Latino community of Minnesota. Reports on rural and urban communities will help students gain an understanding of this demographic change. Go to publications and search for "ethnography" to find community specific reports.

Post-Secondary

Research Methods

HACER reports often use qualitative research methods. Each report using this method contains the focus groups and individual interviews. These can serve as samples as students design and use their own qualitative research instruments. Go to publications and search for "qualitative" to find reports that use this methodology.

Architecture

One professor wrote: "My teaching in landscape architecture looks at the cultural landscape and sense of 'place', particularly the multicultural dimensions of built form in the United States...I'm making [Latinos on the West Side of St. Paul] available to my students so that they can learn something of the history and present community of the West Side, in addition to the physical and built elements of the landscape."

Organizational

HACER reports illuminate topics related to public and private organizations. HACER reports have been used by professionals from the following fields:

HACER reports inform community leaders as to the Latino realities throughout the State. An advisor to Minnesota's state government wrote that the Latinos on the East Side of St. Paul report "can help us develop our advice and counsel to state government policy makers".
