Date:

July 2009 - June 2010

Description:

Minnesota has the fastest growing Latino population in the U.S. and has seen a 400-fold increase in its Latino population over the last decade. As this population continues to expand so does the need for Latino community building organizations to provide greater levels of education, health, housing, family and social services, that are accessible to an ever more diverse group of Latinos in Minnesota. Latino non-profit leaders require greater support to bolster the sustainability of their organizations and to provide Latino communities with high-quality programs and services.

The Development Training Institute (DTI), the nation’s premier community leadership development organization, in collaboration with Hispanics Advocacy and Community Empowerment Research (HACER) and a Minnesota Latino Advisory Committee made up of local Latino nonprofit leaders committed to statewide Latino community building are pleased to announce the MINNESOTA Latino Non-Profit Leadership Academy. The Local Co-Training Partner is Hispanic Advocacy and Community Empowerment through Research (HACER).

With funding from a variety of Minnesota-based foundations and corporations, the Academy will support the growth of Latino leaders and contribute to the sustainability of Latino nonprofits increasing their ability to effect systemic and transformative change as stewards of diverse low-income Latino communities in Minnesota. Committed to helping America rise to the challenge of achieving racial and economic justice, DTI sees the value of supporting the community organizing work of grassroots leaders because of the strong connection between leadership development, community organizing, and effecting community change. The Academy is dedicated to helping Latino non-profit leaders move their organizations to the next levels of organizational development and excellence.

At no cost to participating organizations, the Latino Nonprofit Leadership Academy will provide the Executive Director, Board Member and one of the organization’s emerging leaders of 10 Latino-led Minnesota non-profit organizations with a series of leadership workshops, on-site technical assistance, mentoring and coaching tailored to the specific needs of each organization. The Application Deadline is June 1, 2009. Interested organizations can download the applications at www.hacer-mn.org.
